Between juggling schedules, managing meals, helping with homework, and remembering all the things, parents and caregivers are constantly looking for ways to make life run a little smoother. One tool that’s becoming a quiet hero in many households? AI and technology. Think of AI and automation as your digital co-parent—not replacing the human care you give, but offloading repetitive tasks so you can be more present with your family.

We asked members of our CaPE community to share how they’re using technology — especially AI tools like ChatGPT, voice assistants, helpful apps, and automated systems — to save time, reduce stress, and stay (mostly) on top of it all. From smart shortcuts to specific prompts, their ideas are as practical as they are genius.

Check out the real tips and tools your fellow caregivers are using — and maybe steal a few for yourself.

1. Staying Connected Without Disturbance

Quiet communication: One parent uses WhatsApp to message their partner from across the house so they don’t wake a sleeping toddler. It’s a small hack that avoids the dreaded mid-nap meltdown.

Searchable history: Messaging apps make it easy to track down past details — like when you last messaged a support service or care provider.

2. Mastering the Family Calendar

Shared calendars are the #1 tool caregivers swear by:

3. Using AI as Your Planning Assistant

Use ChatGPT and Copilot to:

One caregiver shared that they use AI to help “re-enter” routines after coming home from a trip — a simple way to ease decision fatigue.

4. Smart Homes, Smarter Routines

Alexa & other smart speakers can: announce “It’s dinnertime!”, remind you to take out the trash, or sound an alarm when it’s time to catch the school bus.

Home Assistant systems allow for advanced automations — like sending phone reminders for medication, opening windows, turning on lights, or running appliances automatically.

5. Automating Household Chores

Why spend your precious energy on repetitive tasks when a robot can help?

6. Supporting Health & Medication

Automated pill dispensers release only the right dose at the right time, with alarms so nothing gets missed. One caregiver described their “pill UFO” that holds two weeks’ worth of medication and only dispenses what’s needed.

Meal delivery automation: For an elderly parent who sometimes forgets to eat, one family schedules dinner delivery on nights they can’t be there in person.

Knowing Tech’s Limits

An important reminder: while AI is great for organizing, planning, or simplifying routines, it is not a doctor.

Technology won’t take away the emotional load of caregiving, but it can handle the background noise — the calendars, the reminders, the repetitive chores — so you can spend more time on what matters most: being present with the people you care for.
