We’ve all been there, the calendar is overflowing, the inbox keeps pinging, dinner still needs to be made, and the mental checklist never seems to end. Whether you’re balancing work deadlines, caring for family, or both, it’s easy to find yourself running on empty. In those moments, finding your own “reset button” can make all the difference.
When we asked our CaPE community what helps them pause and recharge, their answers reflected the beautiful diversity of our global village — different cultures, time zones, and family setups, yet all united by one truth: we all need a moment to breathe.
For many, nature is the best medicine. A walk through the park, a few deep breaths in the garden, or even five quiet minutes looking out the window can help ground you again. Some head for the beach or a local trail, others simply take their laptop outside between meetings. Fresh air and natural light have a way of resetting our minds like nothing else.

Others find peace in simple, at-home rituals. Curling up with a good book, brewing a favourite cup of tea, or sneaking in an episode of a feel-good show after a long day. Many of our members spoke about how reading or gaming lets their minds escape the constant hum of responsibility — offering a brief but powerful reprieve.
Then there’s the joy of movement — Zumba, yoga, a kickboxing session, or even a solo dance party in the kitchen. Physical activity is more than exercise; it’s an emotional outlet. Moving our bodies helps shake off the tension of the day and reconnects us with the present moment. Some members mentioned using breathing techniques like box breathing (inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4) to calm anxiety and slow racing thoughts before diving back into their day.
Many turn to connection as their anchor. A chat with a friend, a spontaneous hug from a child, a few minutes playing with the family pet — these small, human moments remind us we’re not alone in the chaos. One member shared how dancing with their little one helps them “reset the tone” of the day, while another finds calm in grooming their horse, feeling their own heartbeat steady as they work together in quiet companionship.

And for others, it’s all about mindful solitude — putting on noise-cancelling headphones, listening to calming music, meditating, journaling, or simply sitting still. One member said that when everything feels too much, they just sit outside, close their eyes, and let the sounds of the world — birds, wind, city life — wash over them for a few minutes. It’s a small act that brings a big sense of peace. There’s no one-size-fits-all way to reset.
Some of us recharge through movement and laughter; others through stillness and reflection. What matters most is recognising when you need to pause — and giving yourself permission to do it. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, try stepping outside, stretching your body, reading a few pages of a book, or simply doing nothing at all for a moment. Your mind and body will thank you for it.

Connection + Movement both resonate with me. For years, i struggled with focus on work & family demands… with little time or focus on health and disconnecting for some other passion or purpose.
Then last year, I took a leap back into performance and live theatre/musicals. Made new connections, more movement +more energy for the day job and most importantly – turned my focus and committed time to new people and new activities. A year later, I am more active physically and filled with more joy +it helps me to commit to 6pm on rehearsal or show days, I sign off to turn my attention and energy elsewhere. A great flywheel and virtuous circle that gives me more to give to others.
